Hippie Popcorn

Woohoo! We're back! We've been on the road. I hope to share some thoughts and pics about our travels, but frankly, we're still playing catch up, plus it's my sweetheart's birthday. So that will have to come later.

For today, I'm sharing our favorite summer snack (OK, also our favorite anytime snack). When it's light until 9:30 PM, bedtime gets pushed back a little. Nothing motivates my boys to clean up the playroom like a little movie and popcorn.

But not just any popcorn. When my husband and I first started dating he introduced me to the way they eat popcorn here in Ashland. Let me tell you, there is no going back.

Friends, meet nutritional yeast (also called brewer's yeast):

You can purchase it in the bulk section at lots of grocery and health food stores. I keep mine in an old PB jar.

A little freshly popped popcorn, some melted butter, salt, and nutritional yeast= DELISH. (If you're feeling guilty about the butter, keep in mind that the yeast contains every essential amino acid. Totally worth it!) Our preferred accompanying beverage? OJ!

enjoy!

I recently discovered nutritional yeast when I started feeding my family a plant based diet. I love the nutrition and cheesy flavor. I'd never thought about putting it on popcorn though! Thanks for the tip!

Yum! My favorite! I do not know what I did before nutritional yeast!

In fact, I blogged about it last week :) Our kids could share a bowl.

My Mom used to make popcorn that way when we were little. Probably because we lived in Ashland for a while. I had totally forgotten about it though.
