Plain White T

OK my friends. If you can help me solve this one, you can be my BFF. I need a good white T-shirt.

Here is what I'm looking for:
-Thick enough that I could wear it all by itself and you wouldn't see my bra underneath
-Stretchy enough to have good shape
-Long enough that I don't have to constantly pull it down

Here is what I've tried, that I'm not really satisfied with:
-Shade Clothing (the last one I got was floppy, plus I'm bored with their necklines and capped sleeves)
-Layers Clothing (didn't love the fabric)
-Down East Basics (not thick enough)
-Gap (not enough stretch)
-Mossimo for Target (terrible fit)

My mother is probably laughing right now, because she has had to deal with this for years--she thinks I am terribly fussy about clothes. I'm just convinced that there is a better white T out there, and I bet one of you can tell me where to find it...

Banana Republic Outlet has solid color tee's in V Neck and Scoop Neck. I love their fit and shape. I'm not 100% sure that it would be thick enough to wear without a tank underneath though...You'd have to check it out. They usually are on sale and cost about $9. Good luck!

You could try Mod bod, but honestly I've never tried it so I can't be certain its what you are looking for.
Good luck in the search. :D
Let us know if you find it.

I looked for one for a while too! I found the one I like at Pac Sun in the mall. Its long, I dont know if it will be as think as you want but they have some cute clothes, or even try Ancor Blue.

I am also a big fan of the Banana Republic t's. I also ike Eddie Bauer. They're usually long enough. Sometimes I can find inexpensinve ones at Old Navy, but they don't hold their shape past one season of washing. Let us know what you find.

Good question! Gap had the best white t's when I was in high school, like 10 years ago, but something happened to them and they are just not the same. I was so sad and have been looking for the perfect white t since. Let us know what you find!

Have you tried Nordstrom? My favorite white T came from there (slightly longer than cap-length sleeves, so much more flattering). And White House/Black Market usually has some good ones. Right now their seamless t is a scoop neck with cap sleeves. Ann Taylor also has nice T's. Thicker weight than others.

Sooo, admittedly Urban Outfitters sells a lot of teenagey, trendy, low-quality crap, but I've had great success with their tees. I found the BEST white tees there (Lux Brand) and have been wearing them to death ever since. They are long and lean, have a scoop neck, are not too thick and not too thin, and have held their shape perfectly. UO doesn't carry the same exact style anymore (I should have bought a lifetime supply while I had the chance) but I'm sure they still have something similar!

Do you know how many white t's I own and I am STILL on the hunt.

Have you tried the GAP Maternity ones? They are nice and stretchy and long. If you are really slender they are probably not for you, but I have a belly even on my skinniest days, I don't think they flair too much, but I do wear a smaller size than I would with a regular GAP T.

I know you said you've tried Shade, but have you tried their Perfect Tee? It's thicker, with a longer sleeve than their other shirts. I have it in both black and white and have really liked it.

I would try Hanna Andersson (www.hannaandersson.com). Not only do they have adorable kids clothes, but they also have adult basics too! Their organic cotton boxy tees are $20 but they would satisfy all of your requirements. A little bit of an investment but well worth it! I have one in red and am very pleased with it.

After working at VS for a few years in college I discovered the greatest trick to eliminating the bra-under-shirt look: wear a nude bra with a white shirt, not a white bra.
That may help your problem a little. Good luck, I love the length part of this question, it is my biggest challenge.

"Hanes" or "Fruit of the Loom", from the men's section @ Target, the v-neck style. They are the best, package of three for under $10-...can't get better then that!

Have you tried American Apparel? My husband works in the apparel industry and is incredibly picky about his clothes too. He doesn't like spiraling on the T at all. Those American Apparel Ts are the easiest to fold and have lasted many washes (although I don't agree with the company marketing but anyhow...)

I had the same problem until my husband just got me Tommy Hillfiger white t-shirts for Christmas (at the T.H. outlet they were $10 each if you buy 2) and I love how they fit! Somehow they don't accentuate the little stomach most of us have after kids, which I found to be a problem with almost all brands. And these are thick enough to wear by themselves and they come in lots of colors and 2 necklines as well. The only downside is the tiny flag emblem on one side, but I'm willing to deal with that since it hides my stomach-pouch. Thanks hubby!

Banana Republic! I wear my white tee alone all the time and it's not see through and it's tight enough to be flattering without looking like a leotard.

Check out landsend--they have tee shirts as well as polos and just came out with a polo that has a small ruffle at the neck; too cute! the tees are great for layering and the polos comfy but sharp looking.
